Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding a job after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical skills that are valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major because they enjoy the subject material. By sampling a variety of courses from different departments, you can get a better feel for which field you are most comfortable in. The most popular college major is business administration, split equally between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the large majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, the fields of education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

You don't have to be enrolled in a degree program in order to sign up for online courses. Each class is recorded and stored on a server, which allows for the ability to replay difficult sections as many times as is needed. Online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript, if you so choose. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have done well in. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be able to receive advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Eastern Kentucky University contract lawThe college degree majors with the best starting-salaries after graduation include physical sciences, business administration, and engineering. Pursue your career interests, not just a high salary, and your overall job earnings will increase over time as you gain experience. If you focus your degree choice on salary alone, there's the risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular, four-year college, and you still might end up earning a lot of money as a highly-skilled, technical consultant. By taking some of your degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, saving money on tuition, as well as entering the job market sooner. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your present career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software and Google apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree earned on campus. Udemy online learning, a site which allows anyone to take online courses, is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Khan Academy now offers over 3,900 micro-lectures available via YouTube. Coursera, another online-learning software platform, has millions of enrolled students around the world. Through MIT Open Courseware online classes, educators can improve development of their curricula, making their instruction more effective.

After several years in the workforce, graduates in certain fields can end up with higher lifetime earnings than students who have degrees from elite colleges. The key is to focus on your technical skill set, and build a portfolio of your work. While some fields insist that you have a four-year degree just to get a job interview, other high-paying careers may be entered with only an associates degree. Your resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.

The US Department of Labor reports that new graduates with technical degrees are likely to find employment faster, including majors in computer programming, small business administration, health care, and graphic design. An associates degree can save you time and money, by transferring later to a regular 4-year degree program. Some careers that require an associates degree include becoming a dental assistant, occupational or physical therapy assistant, or licensed practical nurse (LPN). Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability and specific skill-sets. The greatest downside to an associates degree in the job market is that you will be competing with individuals holding bachelors degrees. Therefore, make sure you're comfortable in the niche you've chosen, and have developed strong job skills.

Create a Part-time Income Online

The goal here is to show you how to design a simple website that gets listed on search engines, and is able to generate a cash-flow within a few months. Sure, you've seen lots of sites telling you that it's easy to make money online, but if it was that easy, everyone would be rich. The truth is that creating a part-time income for yourself is possible, but it's a fair amount of work up-front. If you keep working on it a few hours a week, you can increase your daily earnings as your website develops. The basics are as follows:
Website Design Course
(6 steps to learn)
  1. Get a hosting package. Costs $5/mo, including a domain name.
  2. Website design can be simplified, using templates and RSS feeds.
  3. Write one 900 word article daily, with original photos.
  4. Drive search engine traffic via on-page optimization.
  5. Get approved to Google AdSense, and other affiliate programs.
  6. Earn money, beginning with $1/day, and keep publishing.

Doing business online is one of your best options to raise extra income. Success is governed by two main factors, visitor traffic and sales conversions. How many of the right people can you attract to your site, and how many of those people can you persuade to take a given action? The easiest way to start is by opening a Wordpress blog, and monetizing with Google AdSense pay-per-click ads. If you've tried Adsense before, but only made a few cents per click, you have a lot of learning to do. Just making a website isn't enough, if no-one can find it. You'll then need online marketing skills, and the ability to drive conversions. All of this takes work.
